Maltodextrin Production Process

Maltodextrin
1. Raw Material Preparation and Starch Solubilization
In the first stage, the starch to be used in production (usually corn, wheat or potato starch) is mixed with water and dissolved under appropriate temperature and mixing conditions. At this stage, the starch particles are gelatinized and transformed into a structure where enzymes can be effective.
2. Enzymatic Hydrolysis (Shredding)
The dissolved starch solution is processed with α-amylase enzyme at a certain temperature and pH range. This enzyme randomly cuts the starch chains and separates them into smaller polysaccharide pieces. Depending on the desired product characteristics, glucoamylase or other auxiliary enzymes can be used in some processes to obtain shorter sugar chains.
3. Filtration and Purification
After the enzymatic digestion process is completed, unwanted impurities, protein residues or color-causing substances in the solution are removed by filtration or carbon filtration. This stage is important for improving product quality.
4. Evaporation (Condensation)
The cleaned sugar solution is concentrated by evaporation under vacuum. This process is usually done in multi-stage evaporator systems in order to save energy.
5. Drying (Spray Dryer)
The concentrated sugar solution is sent to the spray dryer and brought into contact with hot air. At this stage, the product is turned into powder. Product particle sizes, moisture content and free flow properties are controlled in this section.
6. Packaging and Storage
In the final stage, the dried maltodextrin powder is cooled, classified and packaged in automatic packaging machines and shipped to the warehouse. Storage conditions should generally be humidity and temperature controlled environments because maltodextrin is a hygroscopic (moisture absorbing) material.
Description of Investment Components:
-
Machinery:
The machinery investment includes the essential equipment required for maltodextrin production, such as starch slurry preparation systems, enzymatic hydrolysis reactors, evaporators, spray dryers, crystallizers, filtration units, powder handling and packaging systems, CIP (Cleaning-In-Place) systems, and all related process lines and automation systems. These machines ensure efficient conversion of starch into maltodextrin and the subsequent drying, refining, and packaging of the final product. -
Land & Construction:
The land and construction costs cover industrial-zoned land and all necessary physical infrastructure, including production buildings, administrative offices, raw material and finished product storage, laboratory units, social facilities, and landscaping areas. These facilities are designed to accommodate the full operation of the maltodextrin production plant, ensuring a smooth and efficient process flow from raw material intake to final product storage and distribution. -
Total Investment:
The total investment estimate includes all critical components such as detailed process engineering, mechanical and electrical installation, infrastructure setup, environmental protection units (e.g., wastewater treatment), product handling systems, licensing, and utility connections (electricity, water, gas). These components are crucial to ensure the continuous, large-scale operation of the maltodextrin production facility. -
Auxiliary Equipment:
Auxiliary systems such as steam boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, water purification systems (e.g., reverse osmosis), control panels, backup power generators, and utility monitoring systems are not included in the machinery prices listed above. These systems must be quoted separately based on the specific capacity and operational requirements of the facility. -
Project Design:
Project planning, feasibility studies, and factory layout design services are provided independently and are not included in the above investment figures. These services can be tailored to local regulations, raw material availability, and market targets to ensure that the facility is optimized for operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. -
Technical Service & Consulting:
Turnkey installation is included within the investment scope. After commissioning, remote monitoring, process optimization, and technical support services will be provided free of charge for a period of 700 days following plant handover. This ensures the facility operates at peak efficiency and allows for prompt resolution of any technical issues that may arise.
